The YIA Network Leadership Retreat: March 7-9, 2008 @ Stave Lake
The facilitators, our core leaders that spearhead the growth of YIA, from each of our various projects will be attending a leadership development retreat scheduled from March 7-9, 2008 at Stave Lake. Facilitators will be trained on facilitation, project management, and youth engagement. The retreat will enable our project facilitators to engage in workshops and other activities geared towards providing the skills and camaraderie necessary to sustain YIA. The invaluable skills our facilitators gain will positively impact the communities our projects are coordinated. These include the Strathcona/Downtown Eastside and Douglas Park areas. The Youth Inspiring Action (YIA) Network is a volunteer initiative that is youth based and youth driven. It is composed of a network of youth, ages 16 to 25, who initiate, facilitate, and coordinate community projects in Vancouver, British Columbia. This network provides access to contacts, resources, and skills training to provide youth leaders with the opportunity to positively impact their community. The YIA Network hosts workshops and programs throughout the year. The purpose of the YIA Network is to support and encourage the model of "youth helping youth" on both the community and city-wide level. Through co-ordinated efforts, resources are to be shared and a consistent standard of skills is to be maintained across community centres within Vancouver, B.C..
